A low-cost cloud storage scheme based on hybrid strategy

In order to ensure high availability of cloud storage system data, reduce data storage cost and bandwidth cost, and shorten access time of data object, a new scheme called Cache size Adaptive Determination (carom) is proposed. Carom combines the traditional method based on caching strategy and error correcting code to improve the elasticity and efficiency of cloud file system. In addition, in order to achieve the balance between the cache size and its benefit, an adaptive method based on the general cost convex function is proposed to realize the adaptive selection of cache size. In the performance evaluation based on the real world file system data, the storage cost and bandwidth cost of the carom scheme decreased 60% and 43% respectively compared with the replication strategy and the error-correcting code strategy, while the access latency was equal to the replication strategy. The results show that the carom scheme has the characteristics of low bandwidth cost, low storage cost and lower access cost while supporting the semantic consistency of the current cloud file system.
