With its latest facilities, the Vantage Data center proves that low-power data centers are not impossible in Silicon Valley.
Vantage, the latest data center in California State, Santa Clara has achieved an astonishing 1.12PUE energy rating (PUE or called power utilization efficiency, a measure often used to show how the data center effectively uses energy).
Vantagehttp://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/32064.html "> Marketing director Greg Ness said that the new Vantage Data center V2 facilities have been leased out, And in the design of close cooperation with customers.
Vantage's data centers sometimes support multiple clients, often tailored to the energy efficiency of Amazon or Facebook's data centers. Ness said: "Our V2 facilities are leased to several customers, so our standards are not suitable for all enterprises." But our cooperation with them in electrical, mechanical, engineering construction will enable the data center to meet the needs of customers. ”
One way vantage can provide energy savings, Ness says, is that it uses outdoor air to cool it for 86% of the time, rather than using more expensive air-conditioning from a refrigerator. Many data centers will try to build on the north, such as Iceland, Scandinavian Pen. or the Pacific Northwest, to minimize the need for expensive air-conditioners.
The Facebook data center in Oregon State Prineville, which uses a double-decker design, provides a "duplex" cooling system for the data center.
The V2 is a 9 MW device, but can run in 18 MW environments. "We detect it running at a higher level of power," says Ness. If you have a 9 MW datacenter and then run it under 18 megawatts, it looks like a second facility. ”
Santa Clara Facility closes a dedicated Silicon Valley substation and buys their electricity at wholesale prices, Ness said.
Another way to save costs is for data center customers to be open-minded enough to know that their servers are not running in very cold rooms. The Amazon data center expert James Hamilton points out that many companies running their own data centers are colder than they are accustomed to, and turning off thermostat is a safe and reliable way to save money.
