December 15 News, according to Reuters, power and automation technology group ABB Company announced today with social networking site http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/1560.html "> Facebook signed a contract worth about 11 million dollars to provide power to Facebook's first data processing center outside the United States. ABB said in a statement that the data Processing center is located in the Arctic Circle, an area equivalent to 11 football fields.
For green reasons, Facebook has opted to set up the data-processing center in northern Sweden to use renewable energy. As Europe's largest green data-processing center, the local cold weather helps cool its server arrays.
The data-processing centers of social media sites like YouTube and Facebook often need to run huge amounts of cloud computing and traffic processing. It is reported that the energy consumption of a data center is equivalent to the total amount of electricity consumed by 25,000 American households.
ABB's energy is mainly used in oil extraction, mining and utility companies. Under the contract, the company will establish two high-voltage substations containing gas-insulated switchgear for the power supply of the data-processing center, which will be officially operational next December. (
