Actian acquisition of large data companies Paraccel

Actian is a somewhat hidden database company. The current annual income is about 150 million dollars. The acquisition of Paraccel has been the fourth acquisition by Actian in the past 5 months. After acquiring Paraccel, Actian's database product suite became richer by the introduction of large data capabilities. Actian products now include relational database Ingres, object database versant, and Analysis database vectorwise. The latter is a single server product that is best suited for processing 1-50TB-scale data. By contrast, Paraccel can be run on multiple devices and is truly a large data processing technology that can be processed with a scale even petabytes.

Earlier this month, it also acquired a professional software pervasive Software for data integration and large data analysis. Pervasive's Datarush platform can be run either on Hadoop or integrated with Hadoop. Integration means that the data for Hadoop can be migrated to pervasive, and its data processing speed and depth are much higher than MapReduce.

Paraccel's extended architecture is dedicated to large data processing, and its large-scale parallel database technology has many important users, the most famous of which is Amazon. Amazon is both an investor and a customer, and its underlying Amazon Web services redshift Data Warehousing service is based on Paraccel. By 2011, Amazon had been able to finance tens of millions of dollars of paraccel.

Although the transaction amount has not been disclosed, but believes the price is very expensive. Since 2007, Paraccel's total financing has reached $93 million trillion.

But big investment may bring a huge payoff. Actian CEO Shine expects big data to be the fastest growing business area in the company's future.
