In the eyes of some venture capitalists, Airbnb's market capitalisation is as high as $10 billion, higher than any large chain hotel group, but only four companies have mentioned Airbnb's name in the 10K annual earnings report to the Securities and Exchange Commission sec.
Diamond resorts, with timeshare as its main business, explicitly ranked Airbnb as one of its rivals, and it was the only lodging company to mention Airbnb in its annual earnings.
Combined with Orbitz CSM, TripAdvisor and HomeAway, the four listed companies call Airbnb competitors.
Wyndham Hotels in Europe and the United States have 103,000 vacation apartments, but did not say in the annual report Airbnb or HomeAway is its competitors, Hilton Global and boutique International hotel is the same. In fact, the three chain hotel groups did not mention any competitor's name in the annual report, nor did they mention the sharing of the economy.
Expedia, with its fledgling partnership with HomeAway, also failed to list Airbnb and HomeAway as rivals in its annual report, as did Priceline, although its booking.com sold about 120,000 vacation rentals.
