Smeiaccurate from multiple message channels, AMD has abruptly eliminated the next-generation entry-level low power APU Krishna/wichita using the 28nm process.
They were originally intended to replace the existing 40nm Ontario/zacate APU Core and its Brazos platform, but were suddenly cut off. The specific reason is not yet clear, but it is widely suspected that the GlobalFoundries 28nm shp foundry process slow progress. According to the roadmap, the process will not be available until 2012, meaning it will not be available in batches until the third quarter of next year. Even if Krishna/wichita delays until then, it will not be until the end of next year to form a market, and according to the road map, 2013 will be the next generation of new platforms, Krishna/wichita life cycle will be very short.
Ontario/zacate is the TSMC generation, Krishna/wichita originally also said that TSMC alone, and then said TSMC, GF Two division is responsible, but no matter who choose, on behalf of the factory problem certainly once again hurt AMD's heart.
However, given that AMD now attaches great importance to the mobile field, and does not rule out the possibility of cancellation from the strategic, so AMD can accelerate the early introduction of newer, stronger Kerala platform and Kabini APU. I hope so.
Either way, the Brazos platform will continue to hold.
