AllThingsD, the US technology blogger, quotes sources as saying that Yahoo is discussing the acquisition of Xobni, an iOS version of the Address Book app.
Sources say two companies have been negotiating for some time and that the deal is likely to be reached soon. But there are still variables before the deal is finalized.
XOBNI can be well integrated into Yahoo's email service and office tools. The application automatically creates personal files for each e-mail contact and records session history and social network data.
XOBNI has financed more than $40 million trillion, but has not yet achieved widespread success. The company's investors include Y Combinator, Khosla Ventures, the Round capital, Atomico, Baseline Ventures and Cisco.
Yahoo declined to comment on rumours about the takeover, which XOBNI has not yet commented on. From 2005 to 2008, XOBNI CEO Jeff Bonford (Jeff Bonforte) was an executive at Yahoo for communications products and social search.
In 2008, Microsoft tried to buy Xobni at a price of about 20 million dollars, but it failed. Since then, XOBNI has developed a number of products other than the Outlook plug-in, including Gmail, Yahoo Mail and icloud Plug-ins, and the company has developed SMARTR contacts applications for Android and the iphone.
Yahoo CEO Marissa (Marissa Mayer) is actively acquiring. She initially bought a number of mobile apps, but only spent 16 million of dollars. Mayer then bought the summly with 30 million dollars and bought Tumblr with 1.1 billion dollars. There are rumors that Mayer is also considering the acquisition of Foursquare.
