Last year, corporate interest in private clouds grew dramatically, and there were more sophisticated platforms and features on the market. In the TECHTARGET2013 data Center and Reader selection survey, respondents who planned to deploy private clouds in the coming year had a notable growth of 627 respondents, representing 15.5%, compared to 8.2% in 2012. The company's interest in the public cloud has not increased markedly, from 4.1% to 4.5%.

Interestingly, Forrester Research also found an increase in corporate interest in private clouds in its annual survey, conducted in North America and Europe with 1000 companies, 36% interested in private clouds in 2012, and 46% in 2013. The figure is a big leap in the other categories of the survey, compared with a 31% increase from a cloud to 35%.

Analysis of private cloud computing market

The main reason for this is that the enterprise discovers that the private cloud can balance the enterprise's IT requirements well, provides the demand flexibility of the public cloud, and ensures the security of the private environment, everything is saved behind the enterprise's firewall. In contrast, the security of the public cloud is still the hottest topic in the market. For most users, security is still a big problem.

Most of the time, users think about what a private cloud is not. One of the questions in Forrester's survey was whether respondents who chose private cloud were actually automating or serving themselves, and whether they were tracking use cases through departments or roles, and only 28% showed that their cloud was actually a private cloud. Customers are still confused about the private cloud in a highly virtualized environment, because they would think it would not be a private cloud if they were not able to provide them with a fast or service classification that could be fully automated and delivered within 5-10 minutes.

Many people understand that the first generation of private cloud is built on the infrastructure, software stacks use traditional vendors ' products, such as VMware's vsphere and Vcloud director. The cloud can run applications built five of years ago, and run well, but if you look at it from a cost-benefit perspective, the cost per hour of Amazon's virtual machine is more cost-effective.

A "commodity-style cloud" may emerge in 2014, using Open-source platform OpenStack and other components to achieve a less flexible commercialization hardware. Eventually, there will be a variety of clouds, mixed with public and private clouds, and there will be a management layer, then the enterprise IT staff waiting for the product to mature. Three years ago, from an average perspective, it was not easy to provide a complex service portal, automated allocation, and multiple tenant reservation management. At the same time, Amazon and Google, as well as other companies have been from scratch, can now provide a good service.

There are also a number of good infrastructure offerings, such as Flexpod, and a number of advanced software tools to automate End-to-end. But sometimes the public cloud still has to be used, such as the need to immediately 300 servers ready to work, private cloud is afraid to do. The public cloud will mature over time, and the logical layer security of the public cloud will eventually become a default option, and the private cloud is more like a step in the process, because it makes the corporate security staff feel comfortable.

While reducing costs has become the biggest driver of private cloud computing, the industry's attitude towards the value of private cloud computing is changing. Most businesses use speed and flexibility as the main dividend for private cloud computing. This signal does not just mean the maturity of the enterprise mentality, but also a better understanding of business needs.
