"Analytics" EMC Vmaxe will compete head-on with HP and IBM

A week ago, EMC publicly demonstrated its newly launched storage-system Vmaxe series located in the midsize enterprise market. This multi-functional system is positioned between Vmax enterprise-class systems (with great scalability) and Vnx and Vnxe series (with unified storage platforms, with more price advantages).

Rick Lacroix, head of EMC's public relations department, said Vmaxe first enabled EMC's channel partners to compete with solutions from midsize enterprises such as Hitachi, HP and IBM.

In a brief presentation prior to the release of the product, Fidelma Russo, senior vice president of EMC Enterprise Storage, said the target users of the Emcvmaxe series were midsize enterprises deploying distributed data centers that either were migrating to the cloud or were developing or testing cloud computing applications.

From a technical standpoint, each vmaxe system consists of one to four Intel Xeon storage engines and contains 960 Ssd,sas or SATA drives, all of which are transmitted in a standard 19-inch rack running on a single-phase power supply. When joining a rack, the system must also contain the so-called Virtualization matrix (VMAX), which VMAX contains EMC's "secret ingredient" for all system content resources globally.
