Mobile game developer Rovio last year's operating profit fell by 73%, according to Reuters, a drag on the authorized business. It is also the latest sign of the waning appeal of Rovio's iconic brand, Angry bird.
Rovio said the company's operating profit in 2014 fell to 10 million euros, down 73% from 2013 's € 36.5 million, down 87% from 76.8 million euros in 2012.
Since the launch of the Angry Bird in 2009, Rovio has failed to replicate the success of the game. The decline in consumer-grade products, including toys, clothing and brand licensing, has made Rovio's performance worse.
Rovio last year's total sales fell 9% to 158.3 million euros year-on-year. However, Rovio mobile gaming revenues rose 16% to € 110.7 million year-on-year. "Jolly Jam", "Angry Birds: Stella Bubbles" (Angry Birds Stella pop!) The new Games drive Rovio last year's game downloads up to 600 million times.
Rovio CEO Pica Lantara (Pekka Rantala) said that Rovio has begun to develop a customized version of "Angry Birds" for the Chinese market with the help of the Beijing Kunlun million-dimensional Technology Co., Ltd. and is now planning to launch a new game only for Japan.
