April new housing Establishment figures record low

The number of new homes opened in April decreased by 12.8%, and the annual rate fell to 458,000.　　The number of new homes opened in April was the lowest level since the Ministry of Commerce began publishing the data in 1959.　　Economists who had previously MarketWatch the average expected that the number of new homes to be built in April would be 519,000. The decline in the number of new homes opened in April was mainly focused on the reduction in the construction of large apartment buildings.　　In April, the number of single-family homes started to grow by 2.8%, up to 368,000, and the construction of large apartment buildings decreased by 46.1% to 90,000. Construction permits are the leading economic indices for the real estate industry, with construction licences falling by 3.3% per cent in April and an annualised rate of 494,000.
