While it is difficult to change the business process, it is only a broader obstacle to the adoption of cloud technology. For many businesses, regulatory and security issues are another important barrier to preventing them from moving to the cloud. San Francisco: Amazon Web Services (AWS) has intensified its collaboration with Oracle, specifying a separate part of its cloud infrastructure for running Oracle virtualization technologies and applications on preconfigured Amazon Machine Images (AMIs).

For Oracle users, this collaboration means a quick and easy way to deploy new applications on the Amazon cloud without additional licensing costs or expensive upfront hardware costs.

Oracle will be e-business Suite, PeopleSoft Enterprise, Siebel CRM, Fusion middleware, and Compute Cloud (EC2) infrastructure using Amazon elastic. Products such as databases and Linux distributions provide technical support and platform certification, using Oracle VM virtualization technology rather than Amazon's Xen based hypervisor. Even so, Oracle VMs are based on Xen, and there is no big leap from a technical standpoint.

IT managers attending Oracle OpenWorld are interested in the idea of running an Oracle application on EC2, but are not ready to buy it anytime soon.

"We have to fundamentally change our business processes in order to move to the cloud model, and it is expensive to achieve this change." Our hardware savings will be spent on the change management process. Mark l ' Anson says he is the project manager of the New Zealand dairy manufacturer Fonterra Group (Fonterra Co-operative). "It's just the way we've always been easier to buy products." "he added.

Others share these views. "The pace of big companies is slow, and many companies are bound by outsourced contracts to prevent them from moving to cloud technology," he said. Alex Ureche says he is the Oracle Solution architect for Global one consulting. General Motors is a customer of its company. He added that departments are often reluctant to give up large budgets, even if they save money for companies.

Security is still a barrier to adopting cloud technology

While it is difficult to change the business process, it is only a broader obstacle to the adoption of cloud technology. For many businesses, regulatory and security issues are another important barrier to preventing them from moving to the cloud.

"We can't keep the data outside of Europe," Sven Vermeulen, a system analyst at the Union Bank of Europe's Global services company, a European bank and insurance company. Vermeulen said that although Amazon might have a data center in Europe, he could not put the data "part here and the other part there to meet the rules".

The middleware chief architect of Cummins Inc., a global engine maker at Columbus, Indiana, says her company is concerned about the privacy of data, so it won't use cloud services anytime soon. "It's a problem for us to lose control," she said. She says in an upbeat tone that cloud services are attractive because the provider handles all the trivia and makes the product work together. "Keeping the correct version of the middleware stacks and terminals is becoming increasingly difficult every day," she said.
