ASUS Computer Limited (Asustek Computer Inc., 2357.TW) reported in Wednesday that net profit fell 26% per cent year-on-year in the third quarter as the global PC industry continued to weaken. The net profit for the third quarter was NT $4.94 billion (about 166.8 million U.S. dollars), which was lower than the NT $6.71 billion a year earlier, according to the ASUS computer announcement. Revenue fell 4% in the quarter to NT $1,070 to $800 million, with NT $111.44 billion a year earlier. Notebook and hybrid PC shipments increased 10% to 4.5 million in the third quarter, while tablet shipments grew by 75% to 3.5 million units. PC makers have generally grown in the second half of the year, driven by holiday factors. ASUS Computers expect the fourth-quarter laptop shipments to grow 9% from the previous quarter to 4.9 million, while tablet shipments will grow by 3% to 3.6 million units.
