"Tenkine Server channel April 4 News" Recently, IBM 2014 China Forum held in Beijing. At this forum, IBM's intention to transform cloud computing and large data is clear. In a media interview after the meeting, we interviewed SoftLayer chief operating officer George Karidis and general manager Luo Ruiyi of IBM Greater China Global Information Technology Service on SoftLayer's plans for business progress in China.
Luo Ruiyi, general manager of global information technology services, IBM Greater China
Ms Luo Ruiyi said that in 2016, 25% of applications would be developed on the cloud, and that 85% of the new software being developed now could be deployed and applied immediately after the completion of the cloud. This has changed the way we work with http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/14054.html "> Information technology, which is a very important change that we are now facing." IBM has also taken into account the changes in the business model and has worked to address this new situation. Over the past eight years, IBM has invested 7 billion dollars in acquisitions, including software, services and infrastructure.
IBM SoftLayer chief operating officer George Karidis
Mr. George Karidis, chief operating officer of SoftLayer, said SoftLayer was eight years old and initially SoftLayer focused on the hosting business. Now SoftLayer has three visions, automation, innovation, and enhanced customer capabilities. SoftLayer can expand the platform to focus more on the software and the entire lifecycle, on the basis of the continuous addition of new features, functions and services. It then provides customers with a very open interface that focuses on how they order, manage, and use our services, and gives them full control through the form of APIs. This was preceded by a portal open service, but now increases control through mobile device applications.
As for SoftLayer's landing in China, Ms. Luo Ruiyi said IBM had already negotiated SoftLayer landing, and SoftLayer's Chinese official website would be online at the end of June this year, with IBM planning to set up 3-5 SoftLayer data centers in China. Data center deployments and operations typically require a small and refined team to ensure that the data center is operational all day. It is common practice to have 15 to 18 operators responsible for data centers other than sales and marketing teams. IBM's experience in Singapore and Hong Kong is also about hiring 20 to 25 people for data center deployments and operations, and the number of SoftLayer operating teams in China should be similar to this one, excluding IBM's other cloud-related businesses.
In addition, Luo Ruiyi said, SoftLayer, compared with other cloud computing providers, provides not consumer cloud services but enterprise-class cloud services that guarantee the security, reliability, and transparency of enterprise-class applications. Mr. Karidis says that SoftLayer bare-metal services enable customers to manage infrastructure in a more direct and tight way, both in performance and security, and that proprietary bare-metal avoids the problem of competing for resources by multiple users sharing a single server. This allows SoftLayer to better serve enterprise customers, providing them with an exclusive infrastructure to help them with operations and storage, including large data, high-performance HPC, GPU analysis, and more. This is the current market in other public cloud service providers can not match.
