Bill Gates to the European Parliament to persuade

According to the Xinhua news agency, Microsoft company founder Bill Gates 5th came to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, encouraging EU member States and wealthy Europeans to contribute more to charity. On the same day, the European Parliament is holding a monthly plenary meeting.　　Gates, for the first time with members of the European Parliament's Development Committee, began a dialogue on philanthropy in developed countries, calling on EU countries to maintain and increase poverty alleviation and development assistance to the poorest countries. In his speech, Mr. Gates acknowledged EU countries ' current spending on overseas aid.　　He said most of the aid to the poorest countries came from European countries, and the EU, while actively encouraging Member States to participate, continued to allocate a sizeable sum of money from the budget for poverty alleviation and development assistance. Since the beginning of last year, however, the economic situation in Europe under the weight of the debt crisis has continued to be poor.　　Gates urged EU countries not to lose their benevolence because of the current difficulties, and urged the wealthy Europeans to continue or even increase their contributions. Gates also criticized America's performance. ' America's performance in overseas aid is not worth emulating, ' he said. ' In proportion, the US is doing just one-third of what it should do. ' He believes that foreign aid at the government level, compared to individual contributions, still plays a central role in helping developing countries to escape poverty and hunger.
