Qi Lu, head of Microsoft's search business, said in Thursday that he was not currently worried about Bing's Lurkey market share. Lurkey said Bing's market performance is very good, and Microsoft believes market share is "lagging indicator".
The Microsoft Bing team wrote on the Bing website's search blog in Thursday that the company had redesigned Bing. Microsoft has added a sidebar to the redesigned Bing search engine to show users the contacts and users ' activities on all social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google +. This sidebar separates social data from the results of the main search, which is different from what Google has done for + +. Bing will also add information from other social networking services to the sidebar this summer, such as professional social networking site LinkedIn, location-based mobile service website Foursquare and Skype.
The new Bing page presents a three plate layout, and the left section shows direct search results. When the mouse hovers over a result, a second plate appears in the middle, showing the graph information for the result. The middle plate includes 150 different types of search results, such as restaurants, transportation, movies and hotels, providing maps, reviews and other information. The third part is the sidebar.
Lurkey, who attended the announcement of Bing's revision, said that both he and Microsoft agreed that market share was a "lagging indicator". In other words, when Bing makes the adjustment, the response to the market share of the effect will not be apparent until a few months.
Lurkey said Bing is currently competing not only with Google but also with vertical search engines such as kayak. He also stressed that although Bing's market share still lags behind that of Google, Bing's market share has been growing almost every month since its launch in May 2009.
