NetEase technology News January 28, according to foreign media reports, bitcoin trading website BitInstant chief Executive (CEO) Charlie Schland (Charlie Shrem) was arrested by the United States judiciary, charged with selling Bitcoin to others for anonymous purchase and sale of illicit drugs. The 24-Year-old Sheeran, as well as the 52-year-old Bitcoin broker and the drug-trading website, Silk M.I., a user of Robert Feyera (Robert M. Faiella), were arrested for criminal charges against the federal prosecutor's office in the Southern District of New York. According to the criminal charges, the two men were accused of participating in a project that sold a $1 million worth of Bitcoin to users of the Silk Road. The Silk Road, an underground drug-trading website that allows people to buy and sell illegal drugs anonymously, was closed last November. Sheeran is suspected of helping Feyera cash into Bitcoin, which has opened an underground Bitcoin trading platform called BTCKing on the Silk Road website. In addition to money-laundering, Sheeran was also charged with failing to report any suspicious activity related to the Feyera illegal transaction to the authorities, which the US Department of Justice said violated bank secrecy laws. The criminal charge also states that Sheeran himself had purchased drugs, including marijuana, on the Silk Road website. "The criminal charges announced today show that U.S. law enforcement agencies are doing their best to bring the drug traffickers to justice," said James J. Hunt, the US narcotics Agency's agent, James Hunter. The two defendants were charged with using their computers to generate and expedite the sale of anonymous drugs, thereby making huge profits. BitInstant's investors include Winklevoss and Cameron Venclevos (Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss) brothers, who, in addition to BitInstant, have invested in other bitcoin start-ups. The Winklevosses brothers issued a statement saying: "When we invested in the autumn of 2012, our management made a commitment that they would comply with all the relevant laws, including the Law on money laundering, which we did not expect to happen." They also said: Although Charlie Schland's allegations do not mention BitInstant, we are obviously uneasy about the arrests. We are a passive investor in BitInstant, but we will fully cooperate with the investigation by law enforcement agencies. Sheeran is also a board member of the Bitcoin Foundation (Bitcoin Foundation). The Bitcoin Foundation is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to standardize and promote the use of Bitcoin. The BitInstant Web site is currently closed. Sheeran was arrested in Sunday at JFK International Airport in New York, where Feyera was arrested in Monday at the home of Cape Coral, Florida State Coral Kok. (Chun)
