The actual test and comparison of "InfoWorld" proves that http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/13737.html "> Blade server is sharp enough for enterprise application."

for several years, the growth star of server products has been the Linux server and Blade server. Experts predict that in the next few years, Blade server is still the growth of the server market star, and in the data center and other enterprise applications play a vital role, "InfoWorld" evaluation is based on this market expectations.

Three of
's four blade servers-Dell, Hewlett-Packard and Sun (with the exception of IBM)-have taken part in the InfoWorld's horizontal review. The basic situation of three products is shown in table 1.

for months, but IBM did not participate in the evaluation at the last minute. No one knows if there is a problem with internal co-ordination or because of the fear of head-on confrontation with HP, Sun and Dell. We tried several times to get IBM to take the test. In fact, for the first time when we heard that IBM was not ready to send the product to the lab for evaluation, we made an exception to extend IBM's deadline by 10 working days. Still, the blue giant has no movement. Although after a week they claimed that the product could be sent to the lab in another two weeks, we did not have the patience given the previous performance.

test method and Standard

The
test scenario is actually fairly straightforward: performance testing using the SPECHPC benchmark suite and analysis of server management tools. Due to time constraints, each solution has only one day to display the ability, but manufacturers have one months before the test to prepare the product. This includes blades ready for SPECHPC testing and installing any supporting software.

We chose the SPECHPC test not only because of our focus on high performance computing (HPC) performance of blades, but also because they were able to thoroughly test each solution, including CPU, memory, and interconnect performance. We allow vendors to choose their own hardware, including the type of interconnect they use, requiring only that the SPECHPC test be limited to 16 sockets and 32GB of RAM. Each socket can hold a dual-core or quad-core CPU, with two or four CPUs per blade. In any case, the ultimate goal is to see who is the leader.

for each product category evaluated, the InfoWorld test center first determines which criteria are most important for purchasing decisions, and then assigns weighted percentages to each criterion based on importance. For any product or service sent for testing, rate each criterion (score from 1 to 10), each score is multiplied by the weighted percentage of each criterion, and the result number is added to the total score.

Finally, we give an oral score based on the total score. Products below 4.9 points were rated as "unacceptable"; 5.0 points to 5.9 points as "poor", 6.0 points to 6.9 points as "good", 7.0 to 7.9 points as "good", 8.0 to 8.6 points as "very good", 8.7 to 10 points as "excellent".

The
evaluation standard includes the following combinations:

availability: Evaluates the accessibility of a solution.

Ease of Use: determine how intuitive and easy-to-use a solution is, and focus on who the target user is.

Interoperability: The ability to assess the seamless operability of a solution with a variety of hardware and/or software, or to support different standards.

Management: Assess the ease with which a solution can be managed on a day-to-day basis.

Performance: Evaluates the ability of a product or service to solve problems.

Security: Evaluate how secure a solution is. Whether it can adequately address security issues or leave potential security vulnerabilities.

Reliability: Evaluates the consistency of a solution's normal performance.

scalability: Assesses the growth potential of a solution relative to other parts of the IT infrastructure.

settings: Evaluate the complexity of setting up and running a solution and the time and effort required to implement a solution that is similar in size and functionality.

support: Assess the level of existing customer support, whether it be documentation, online help, or real-time customer support.

Value: Evaluates the total value of a product compared to a similar product that provides similar features and functions.

test results are shown in table 2.
