Baidu (Nasdaq:bidu) is discussing the development of Internet television with a Chinese manufacturer, according to two people familiar with the matter in Tuesday.
One person familiar with the matter said that Baidu was discussing the development of a smart TV set-top box or chip with Guangzhou Huan NET technology. Huan Network technology is TCL and Changhong set up a joint venture.
Baidu is now strengthening its online video business to expand its share of the market. China's online video market will reach 16.2 billion yuan (about $2.6 billion trillion) next year, according to Iris.
Baidu just announced last week that it will buy 59% of the glutinous rice net with 160 million dollars. Before that, Baidu also bought PPS video business with 370 million dollars.
