CA Technologies at CA Expo 2012 officially announced the latest global survey on August 9, "The Future Role of CIO: Digital Technology Training." The survey report said that future business leaders urgently need to strengthen their knowledge of digital technologies in order to better understand the true value of the technology. The report also revealed that 81% of CIOs surveyed in the Asia-Pacific region think that a lack of digital technology knowledge at senior management level is likely to lead to business growth hurdles; however, only about 20% of CIOs in Asia Pacific are accepting The survey said its management can fully understand the capabilities and impact of emerging technologies.

This global survey covers nine Asia-Pacific markets including Australia, China, Hong Kong, China Taiwan, India, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. This survey shows that although business leaders may lack the digital science and technology knowledge, they largely understand the role of technology in their business. Among the CIOs surveyed in the Asia Pacific region, 75% think their management believes IT is strategic.

CIOs are concerned that the lack of knowledge of senior management's digital technologies leads to a lack of market responsiveness, missed business and investment opportunities, a weakening of competitiveness and lagging time to market. In addition, about one-fifth (19%) of interviewed CIOs believe managers at the C level (senior management level) do not understand the impact of emerging technologies. Lionel Lim, President of CA Technologies Asia Pacific and Japan, said: "Most business leaders in the Asia-Pacific region have embraced the notion that IT will play a role in enhancing business competitiveness. To enable IT to truly transform its business, leaders Need to upgrade the role of CIO, making it more strategic and not just operational. "

The CIO's Future Role: Digital Technology Training report underscores that about one-quarter of CIOs believe top management sees IT as a cost of doing business instead of boosting business growth, improving process efficiency, and introducing higher agility A way of sex and competitiveness. This led to only 17% of CIOs regularly involved in strategic decision making, a phenomenon that has hampered the digital leadership of top leadership teams.

It is worth noting that China's CIOs are gradually participating in the process of formulating business strategies. However, according to the survey, 73% of respondents said they have never been involved in formulating business decisions. Only 7% of CIOs said they often participate in the development of business strategy.

Professor Joe Pepphard, director of the Information Systems Research Center at Cranfield University, believes that senior managers must recognize that the value of IT does not come from technology but from the ability to manage and utilize information. He said: "Without an IT system, many businesses will not get lasting vitality."

Professor Joe Pepphard added: "CIOs are transitioning to IT service agents who will also coordinate decisions on enterprise architecture, IT innovation, compliance and strategy and will work more closely with business managers to realize value from digital strategies "In this way, Peppard believes that both IT companies and CIOs will gain further momentum and be able to channel discussions and learning about how to drive business with IT innovation. "CIOs are well placed to engage in strategic discussions that will enable them to demonstrate how a particular digital strategy or project can deliver value, which will give them confidence and move on."

Lionel Lim, President of CA Technologies Asia Pacific and Japan, added: "We regularly work with CIOs to ensure that they have the tools they need to deliver value to their business more effectively and we see that as a member of the Business Leadership Team, CIOs begin to work more To engage more deeply and deliver technical value more efficiently and today CIOs are more aligned with the business than they were 10 or 20 years ago. "

Lionel Lim concludes: "As long as the management team fully understands the potential of the technology, the role of the CIO will change."
