China asks WTO to investigate U.S. restrictions on Chinese poultry meat imports

Geneva, July 20 (Xinhua) The Chinese delegation formally requested the WTO to set up a panel of experts to investigate and decide whether the U.S. restrictions on Chinese poultry imports violate WTO rules. The Chinese delegation reiterates that the prohibition on the establishment or implementation of any measures to permit the importation of Chinese poultry by the United States in section No. 727 ("clause 727") of the 2009 Consolidated appropriation Act violates the relevant WTO rules, such as the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and the Agreement on Agriculture, and is clearly discriminatory,　　Chinese poultry meat products can not be normal to the U.S. exports, damaging the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese poultry industry. The Chinese government on April 17 this year to the United States related measures to the WTO. Since then, the two sides have consulted in accordance with the relevant procedures, but have not resolved China's concerns.　　To this end, China to the WTO to set up a request for expert group. At the same day's meeting, the United States delegation rejected China's request for the establishment of a WTO expert group on the case in accordance with the relevant procedures. However, China could again make a request at the next meeting of the dispute Settlement Body at the end of this month, when the panel will automatically set up and the United States has no right to reject the request again.
