China establishes power Technology Alliance to promote development of domestic chip technology

October 28 News, by the Ministry of Industry guidance of China Power Technology Industrial Ecological Alliance was formally established in Suzhou today. Power Technology Alliance aims to discuss how to make full use of power advanced technology, through digestion and absorption and innovation, to establish a sound industrial ecology, to enhance the Chinese chip, server and software technology. The General Assembly reached a series of cooperation intentions and agreements around power industry ecological construction.

Globally, the IBM-led OpenPOWER Foundation aims to build an open ecosystem in which IBM can customize power chip processors, system platforms, firmware, and middleware software for its members. At present, the foundation's members are mainly divided into: chip designers, hardware manufacturers, system suppliers and software providers four categories, the main representative of the manufacturers have Google, nvidia, wave, ZTE and so on.

China's Power Technology Alliance is in the same vein as the Open Power Foundation, where the Chinese government also plays a role as a guide and helper, with the development of China's independent intellectual property power chip.

According to the chairman of Suzhou Zhongsheng Acer Technology Co., Ltd., one of the core members of China Power Technology Alliance, the main results of the negotiations with IBM are as follows: IBM will transfer the most advanced Power 8 CPU technology in the world, and agree with its member partners to Power8 The CPU architecture is based on the right to independent innovation and recognizes its own intellectual property rights. In terms of security and controllability, IBM agreed to open its hardware and software systems, remove its own security modules, and accept national security audits.

Overall, the domestic server independent chip technology needs to go from the introduction to digestion and absorption to the innovation of the development of the road, this is a long process, it may be filled with many variables, still need the parties to continue to explore.
