Fang Ying (China Daily Feature) the Legatum Institute of International think-tank, based in London, has published the 2010 rankings of the Global Prosperity Index, with the result that the Nordic countries continue to be among the top, first by Norway, and then by Denmark and Finland.  China's ranking is 17 higher than last year, in 58th place. Britain's top 10 Legatum Institute publishes the rankings of the global Prosperity Index every year, studying the level of national wealth and happiness in 110 countries and regions worldwide, covering 90% of the world's population.  The Legatum Global Prosperity Index measures 8 projects in these countries and regions, including education, health care, social security, personal freedom and economic confidence.  The Legatum Institute points out that the top three Nordic countries, although taxed more heavily, but the social welfare benefits, coupled with the government in recent years a series of effective measures to make the economy stable growth, the national standard of living has been steadily improved.  According to the report, among the traditional powers, the United Kingdom fell to 13th place in the first ten major developed countries because of the low scores in the two assessments of education and health care, and the US and Germany each fell to one in the 10th and 15 respectively.  "Since the onset of the financial crisis, British citizens have been losing faith in the country's economic prosperity, and the gloom over mass unemployment has greatly affected Britain's prosperity," Ashley Lenihan, one of the Legatum Institute's leaders. Singapore has the highest ranking in Asian countries and the highest in Asia, with a 6 rise in the 17th position compared with last year, followed by Japan's 18th place.  Hong Kong fell to 20th place, and Taiwan was 22nd, up two places from last year. In addition, the global Prosperity Index also has another important finding, that is, the difference between the north and south of Europe, such as Germany, the Netherlands and Scandinavian Pen. countries ranked more outstanding, but including Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain in the south of Europe ranked in the back.
