China-US first round Strategic Economic Dialogue held in July

According to the Xinhua news agency, President Hu Jintao met with the U.S. President's Special Representative and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner in the Great Hall of the United States June 2. Hu Jintao said that the Sino-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue mechanism is an important platform for deepening understanding, mutual trust and cooperation between the two countries. At present, the two sides have reached a consensus on the first round of talks in the United States in late July this year.　　We hope that the two sides will work closely together, step up efforts to ensure the success of this dialogue, and continue to improve and perfect this mechanism in future practice, so as to make due contributions to the development of Sino-US relations in the new era. Geithner said President Obama pledged that the US side will work to develop a stronger partnership with China.　　The US side looks forward to a positive outcome of the US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue to be held in Washington and is ready to engage in a strategic, forward-looking and long-term dialogue with China on major issues of common concern.　　According to Xinhua news agency, Premier Wen Jiabao 2nd met with Geithner in Zhongnanhai. Wen said that the two sides should continue to deal with Sino-US relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, give full play to the role of China-US strategic and Economic dialogue, continuously consolidate and expand the basis of common interests, and earnestly respect and take care of each other's core interests.　　At present, the most important thing is that both China and the United States should strengthen cooperation in coping with the international financial crisis, resolutely oppose trade and investment protectionism, push forward the reform of the international financial system, strengthen the regulation of the international reserve currency, and safeguard the stability and development of both China and the world economy. Geithner said the US side wants to strengthen cooperation with China in areas such as trade, energy efficiency and climate change, and work together to safeguard regional and world peace and stability.
