China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue to be held next month

Geithner conveyed to Hu Jintao Obama's commitment to develop a stronger cooperative relationship with China according to Beijing, June 2 (Xinhua) President Hu Jintao met with U.S. President Rongji and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on 2nd afternoon. Hu Jintao said that both China and the United States have broad common interests and shoulder important responsibilities, both in dealing with the challenges of the international financial crisis, in promoting world economic recovery, in addressing international and regional hot issues and in safeguarding world peace and security.　　China is willing to work with the United States to maintain a strategic and long-term perspective, grasp the overall situation and seize the opportunity to further strengthen dialogue and consultations at all levels of the two countries, expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and promote new progress in China-US relations in this new era. Hu Jintao said that the Sino-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue mechanism is an important platform for deepening understanding, mutual trust and cooperation between the two countries.　　At present, the two sides have reached a consensus on the first round of talks in the United States in late July this year. Geithner said President Obama pledged that the US side will work to develop a stronger partnership with China.　　The US side looks forward to a positive outcome of the US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue to be held in Washington and is ready to engage in a strategic, forward-looking and long-term dialogue with China on major issues of common concern.　　BEIJING, June 2 (Xinhua) Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with the U.S. President's Special Representative and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner 2nd in north-west.
