China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said in Friday that the energy consumption of China's unit gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 15.61% in late 2009. China's goal is to reduce the energy consumption per unit of GDP by 20% in the five years ending 2010. The 15.61% per cent drop is more pronounced than the 14.38% reported earlier, making China's 20% goal a step closer. The China National Bureau of Statistics has recently revised its energy consumption figures for GDP. The National Bureau of Statistics said last week that energy consumption per unit of GDP in China in 2009, 2008, 2007 and 2006 fell by 3.61%, 5.2%, 5.04% and 2.74% respectively, while previously published data fell by 2.2%, 4.6%, 3.66% and 1.79% respectively. The NBS has not given a cumulative decline in the revisions.
