April 15, 2010, China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) in Beijing published the 2009 China Rural Internet Development Survey Report (hereinafter referred to as "Report"). The report shows that as of the end of December 2009, China's rural internet users have reached 106.81 million, although the scale of Internet users to maintain growth, but from the penetration rate, the structure of netizens, network application in three aspects, the gap between urban and rural areas continued to pull.
Rural Internet users for the first time hundreds of millions of rural mobile phone users grew more than 30 million people
CNNIC the report shows that as of the end of 2009, China's rural internet users reached 106.81 million people, an annual growth of 22.2 million people, annual growth rate of 26.3%. Visible, mobile phone has become the mainstream Internet users in rural areas, but also become an important force to promote the development of rural Internet.
Rural Internet penetration is only 15% urban and rural internet gap widening
From the urban and rural internet penetration rate, the Internet in the urban penetration rate is 44.6%, in rural areas only 15%. CNNIC the report compares the development gap between urban and rural internet in China since 2007: In 2007, the gap between urban and rural internet penetration was only 20.2%, 2008, the gap widened to 23.5%, 2009, widening gap to 29.6%, rural internet development speed slower than urban development speed, The gap between the urban and rural areas is widening, and the "digital divide" between urban and rural areas is expanding.
CNNIC "Report" In the analysis, in the cause of the slowdown in rural internet growth factors, "rural areas lack of basic knowledge of the network, the cognitive bias in the internet", "rural Internet-related infrastructure is weak, public access to scarce resources", "rural internet costs relative to the level of farmers still higher" Is the most important of the three major reasons.
The structure of rural netizens is biased towards younger, lower education and student groups
CNNIC The report shows that, compared with the overall age structure of internet users, rural netizens tend to be younger. The proportion of rural Internet users under the age of 30 is as high as 69.2%, of which the proportion of young people under the age of 19 is 41.1%, while among the national netizens, 30 of the younger group is 61.5%.
The difference of academic education distribution between urban and rural netizens is obvious, and the average cultural level of rural netizens is relatively low. Among the rural Internet users, the junior and below education Net-users accounted for 52.1%, far higher than the urban 29.2% of the proportion. The proportion of rural Internet users ' commercial application is far behind the urban entertainment
CNNIC "Report" to the urban and rural Netizen network application is compared: For business transactions and communication network applications, urban netizens use rate is far higher than rural netizens, the gap between urban and rural use is obvious. Especially in the online shopping, online payment of these two typical business applications, urban utilization rate is 31.7%, 27.7%, and rural use rate is only 17.6%, 15.1%.
In the application of network entertainment, the utilization rate of Internet users in rural areas is close to that of town. The use of network music and online games, the most of the network entertainment applications as an example, the urban utilization rate of 83.8%, 68.6%, rural users of 82.7% and 69.9%, in the use of online games, rural areas or even higher than the town 1.3%.
