Google announced this week that it was developing a chrome operating system that would be a huge boost to cloud computing, with Google posting information on its official blog about Chrome:

"People search for information on the Internet, check email, get the latest news, shop and contact friends, Google Chrome is designed for Internet users." But Chrome is not limited to the Internet, we're going to launch a new product from Chrome, Google Chrome, which lets us rethink what the OS should look like. ”

"Google Chrome OS is an open source, compact system that was originally designed for laptops. Later this year we will be opening its source code, and running Google Chrome's notebooks will be available to consumers in the next six months. ”

The Google Chrome system can be a boost to Google's cloud computing, and once Google uses the web-based chrome system to create a cloud computing environment, Google Apps and other products can be interconnected over the internet anytime, anywhere, without the need for local data and software.

But at the moment, Google faces many challenges, such as whether the chrome system is secure, trustworthy and not so many bugs. Chrome still needs to do better to convince people to believe in Google Cloud and put all the data on it, but now, presumably, more people are using word to process important documents to avoid losing data.

In addition, two of the largest Linux manufacturers Red Hat and canonical (Ubuntu vendors) announced a new initiative to provide customers with cloud computing business services.

Red Hat launched a new cloud vendor certification program, and canonical as the commercial provider behind the largest Linux operating system Ubuntu, offering fee-based support for cloud services. Both efforts are likely to help Linux vendors create revenue by using cloud technology to provide services to businesses that need cloud computing.

Red Hat, with its rich experience in cloud computing, has been providing Linux for the Amazon EC2 platform for more than a year, just before the product was tagged with a beta test. With the launch of the new Red Hat Certified Cloud Supplier (Certified Cloud Provider) project, Red Hat will certify its Amazon cloud service, according to Mike Evans, vice president of Red Hat Enterprise development, which gives users who want to become cloud service providers a great convenience, This is not the first time that Red Hat has dabbled in cloud computing, according to reports that Red Hat has already deployed cloud computing in Wuxi.

On the one hand, the full production version of the Red Hat product is now available to Amazon EC2 users, not just the beta version. Because of Amazon's certification, users can run Red Hat apps in their IT environments or move them to the Amazon platform-with full support, compatibility, and security updates, Evans said. Red Hat customers also have the flexibility to swap purchased applications back and forth between platform environments.

"In addition to giving end users a more confident and flexible use of the Amazon platform, similar information will be sent to our thousands of ISVs (independent Software noun, independent software vendors) partners," Evans said. Certified cloud vendors are those Red Hat technology and business partners. For independent software vendors, if their applications are certified by Rhel or JBoss, it would be much easier for them to collaborate with their cloud-computing products and the certified cloud providers. ”

In Evans's view, cloud providers and end users want to have more options for cloud applications. While operating systems, databases, and application servers have become a good start, the world needs more, and red Hat hopes to help more ISVs develop their cloud applications. Of course, with the exception of Red Hat and canonical providing cloud services, Cloudera released the Hadoop cloud service for "ordinary people" and threatened: "What Red Hat does to Linux is what we do with Hadoop." ”。

"So the plan is centered on cloud vendor certification, but it does see a triple win scenario, end users, ISVs and cloud providers," Evans said, with the goal of "increasing trust and reducing barriers to wider application of the cloud."

Almost in unison with Red hat, canonical also jumped into business cloud services, providing support for users, the official name being the Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud Service (Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud Services).

"The launch of the support and consulting service is designed for the cloud environment, mainly composed of two parts: based on the bottom of the Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud (Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud), and provide support for the virtual machine running the Ubuntu Server Edition" (Ubuntu server Edition), we have fully considered both parts. "Of course, in addition to enterprise-class Ubuntu providing cloud services, the personal level will provide such a service," said Simon Wardley, head of canonical cloud strategy.

The Ubuntu cloud technology is based on eucalyptus open source projects, starting with the release of Ubuntu Linux jaunty a few days ago, and now eucalyptus itself has its own set of business support services.
