Not surprisingly, most companies now pay more attention to big data. But it may be questionable that many companies have expressed reliance on real-time processing of large data to drive their business, and announced that they are considering moving their large data to the cloud.

The findings come from a recent survey by http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/13429.html ">gigaspaces", asking 243 it executives in various industries, About their large data perceptions and plans. The provider of an end-to-end extension solution to the Distributed application environment and an open platform, the service (PaaS) cloud deployment stack, was surveyed online during the fall of 2012.

Survey results:

About 80% of respondents said that large data processing is a vital function

More than 70% say their business requires large data processing, fast – real-time – whether large capacity, high speed, or both

Only 20% of respondents said they had no plans to transfer their large data to the cloud, indicating a general readiness to consider the option

The first finding shows that companies are going beyond gathering and storing large data and delving deeper. Their business needs them to deal with the data is processed in real time at the time of the event, possibly as they are trading on the stock Exchange, alerts from security monitors, or changes in location from GPS devices.

The second finding shows the need for low latency and high performance in processing large data streams, as these features are becoming critical tasks and delays or deletions are not tolerated.

Real-time tools

Gigaspaces sponsored the survey and asked respondents what tools they were using to deal with large data in real time, a gap that showed that only 12% used real-time event-handling tools. According to the Gigaspaces survey, most companies still do not find the right solution to provide the ability to handle large amounts of data, while at the same time providing the required speed.

"Most companies have not yet adopted these real-time event processing tools, and they manage to combine a NoSQL data store with a Hadoop processing platform," Tsipierann said. "It's clear that companies haven't found the right solution specifically for real-time processing and are also suitable for their architecture," said Gigaspaces PR manager. ”

With regard to large data moving to the cloud, respondents seem eager to gain the cost savings and flexibility offered by this model. Only 20% said they had no plans to apply large data to the cloud, while 44% had specific plans or started the migration.

Of the 34% of people who say they are not clear about cloud deployments, the main concern is scalability and security.

Gigaspaces the answer to the question of the importance of the business with reference to large data and the answer to the cloud, came up with this statement: 80% of respondents defined their large data applications as critical tasks for the business and were planning or considering moving to the cloud. The company said it would use some of the results of the survey to help shape the direction of its products.

"We understand the importance of giving customers the right product characteristics and the cost of using such a solution, whether it's integrating Hadoop or processing or transactional management," said Yaron Parasol, gigaspaces product manager.
