On May 23, Cisco has reached an agreement to buy Coreoptics, a professional manufacturer of digital signal processing tools for high-speed optical fiber networks. Cisco predicts that products that add coreoptics to its high-speed network service will allow it to provide up to 100GB of fiber-optic network speeds per second. These products will be geared toward service providers seeking to increase speed and bandwidth for consumers. Cisco will use 99 million of dollars to buy all of Coreoptics's shares and expects the deal to be completed in the second half of the year. Coreoptics's products and staff will become part of Cisco's technology division. Cisco service provider and transport technology general manager Surya Panditi said that through the acquisition, the company increased its investment in its core network business and provided the next generation of IP networks at 100GB and faster per second. ' We will continue to provide the industry-leading product mix for routing, switching, and fiber-optic transmission systems, allowing our service provider customers to better address the business challenges of managing capital and operating budgets while accommodating a huge increase in network traffic, Panditi said.
