First quarter cloud computing device market share

John Chambers, Cisco's chief executive, has been stubbornly claiming that Cisco is no longer simply a network device vendor, but has become an IT company that sells servers, software and many other products, Chambers Beijing June 13. A Wednesday report by Synergy Research Group, a market-study firm, helped to prove his point: in the last quarter, Cisco beat HP and IBM to become the largest it product provider in the cloud market.

The Synergy report showed that the cloud computing market's total revenue in the first quarter was $9.7 billion trillion, down 12% from the previous quarter, but slightly higher than the same period in 2012. Cisco's share of the market is 15%, the first. In contrast, IBM and Hewlett-Packard share 14%, Dell's share is 9%,EMC 7%, virtualization and cloud infrastructure leader VMware and information storage service provider NetApp are 4%, Oracle 3%.

But John Dinsdale, Synergy's research analyst, John Dinsdale that Cisco's top position may not last long. He said Cisco was able to top the cloud computing market in the first quarter, partly because HP and IBM's server businesses were weak during the quarter.

The report also shows that the cloud computing market has an annual growth rate of 3% per cent, a slight decline compared to previous years. In the first quarter, the computing system accounted for 46% of total cloud infrastructure revenue, while network and storage accounted for about one-fourth per cent.

The report also reveals another interesting fact: the 30% revenue from the cloud computing market has not flowed to any large IT companies, since some of the biggest internet companies are no longer buying devices from traditional IT vendors, Google (Weibo), Companies such as Facebook and web hosting and cloud computing industry leader Rackspace are designing their own servers and hiring OEM manufacturers to produce these devices.

Jeremy Duke, founder and chief analyst at Synergy, said: "Cisco has been steadily and consistently building its share in the market and is now at the top of its leadership position." Jeremy Duck Although the server market is somewhat volatile and a significant change may occur in each quarter, we see two major trends taking root, and these trends are particularly influential for large server vendors. First, companies with large data centers such as Google and Rackspace are increasingly moving to build their own server platforms with the help of ODM (the original design manufacturer), and second, as the market is starting to adopt IaaS (infrastructure as a service), As a result, both large and small companies are increasingly outsourcing data centers. We believe that this will continue to facilitate mergers and acquisitions, as IBM acquired Cloud computing company SoftLayer. ”
