Cleversafe-assisted storage service Provider

Cleversafe plans to release the first commercial dispersed Storage receptacle (dsnet) tomorrow, a platform for storing digital content. DSNet uses Cleversafe devices, which are created by some of the company's service providers, communications and hosting partners, and will serve as the basis for new online data protection services targeting the SME market.

The technology of Cleversafe is to use information dispersal algorithms (IDAS) to separate the digital content and store it on multiple storage points on the dsnet via a secure network connection. Each slice of data is useless to look at separately, but any slice of data is useful for restoring the original data. This technology also allows dsnet to withstand multiple simultaneous errors in hardware or storage points while maintaining data security and ensuring the availability of data.

The latest commercial dsnet storage capacity reached 48TB, half of which was used for Cleversafe internal storage, testing, and development. The remaining 24TB is evenly distributed to Cleversafe's dispersed Storage Provider (DSP) partners as the infrastructure for storage services.

Each partner--onshore NX, Fastroot Analysys, Merrimac FX, pinpoint receptacle FX and cyber Development Cleversafe devices have been purchased and deployed, and these components are used to form multi-site dsnet.

With the components provided by three cleversafe companies, a dispersed Storage receptacle can be established by connecting to one another. These three components are CS Slicestor, CS accesser dispersed storage router, CS Manager dispersed storage network manager.

CS Slicestor on average provides 3TB of initial storage on each IU server, and CS Accesser slices and delivers data. CS Manager, as an Out-of-band network device, manages, monitors, and provides statistical reporting on storage capacity usage and errors.

The price of CS Slicestor equipment is approximately USD 11300, and the price of CS Accesser and CS Manager equipment is about 12300 USD. The usual configuration is 8 slicestors, 2 Accessers, and one manager, which has a storage capacity of 24TB. Russ Kennedy, vice president of Cleversafe's product management, said the typical configuration could achieve a 13-9 reliability, at a price of about $127000.

"We believe this is a very appropriate technology to deliver storage as a service to customers," says Kennedy. "DSNet is an ideal backup and data protection technology, and from a price perspective, our partners are now able to deliver storage services to customers at very attractive prices," he said. ”

Kennedy did not disclose the price of storage services hosted on DSNet, but said the service would compete with Amazon's S3 storage service, where the current price of S3 storage services was 0.15 US dollars GB months, and the additional cost of data conversion was $0.20 GB.

"Pricing is usually a partnership thing, but from the way we communicate, their pricing strategy, if not less than Amazon's, will be at least as close to Amazon's price, but more reliable and usable," Kennedy said. ”

Cleversafe's partners focus on storage services based on DSNet, which are aimed at SME customers who require outbound storage. They will form the market for dsnet in the enterprise, but the initial goal is small businesses that lack high-end infrastructure and storage managers.
