In today's enterprise, 80% of the data is unstructured, and the data is growing exponentially by 60% annually. Large data will challenge the enterprise's storage architecture, data center infrastructure, etc., will also trigger the data Warehouse, data mining, business intelligence, cloud computing and other applications of the chain reaction. Future businesses will use more TB-level (1TB=1024GB) Datasets for business intelligence and Business Analytics. By 2020, global data usage is expected to rise 44 times-fold to 35.2ZB (1zb=10 billion TB). Big data is changing the IT world completely. The moves by the big tech giants of the October have led many to realise that the so-called High-tech bubble-the "big data"-is expanding indefinitely.

Microsoft and Hortonworks to develop Hadoop

As early as February this year, Microsoft's HPC development team unveiled a distributed computing platform called "Dryad". It also marks Microsoft's ability to provide Windows HPC Server users with the tools to do massive data processing. Microsoft launched Dryad to encourage developers to write large-scale parallel applications on Windows or. NET platforms. At the time it was also seen as a powerful product of Microsoft's rivalry with Hadoop in large data areas.

But Microsoft, on October 12 at the SQL Pass 2011 Summit in Seattle, surprised everyone by announcing that it would work with Hortonworks, a spin-off from Yahoo, to develop Hadoop and build windows on Apache Hadoop Azure and the Windows Server platform. Windows Server, which is based on Hadoop, also handles tasks jointly with Microsoft's existing BI tools.

The goal of Microsoft's deep collaboration with Hortonworks is to help maximize the integration of Hadoop into Microsoft's offerings with Hortonworks expertise in this area. At the same time two of the collaboration can help simplify the download, installation and configuration of several Hadoop related technologies. including HDFs, Hive, Pig. This will help companies broaden their business through Hadoop. Microsoft will also write new ODBC drivers and expand its existing query system to hive. This allows users to execute Hadoop queries directly from Excel and Powerview.

Red Monk analyst Stephen O ' Grady is also optimistic about the combination of Windows and Hadoop. He said it would be very attractive, which would attract a large number of Windows users. Microsoft has a competitive edge in this field.

Large data domain Oracle hardware, software QI exerting force

Oracle, the world's largest relational database provider, also lonely the NoSQL database, known as the "NoSQL db", in its product chain. NoSQL database is an integral part of Oracle Big Data Appliance announced at Oracle's Global conference. The Big Data appliance is a system that integrates Hadoop, NoSQL databases, Oracle database Hadoop adapters, Oracle database Hadoop loaders, and R languages.

Oracle's investment in large data areas is far more than that. Not only did they launch Oracle Big Data Appliance at the software level, Oracle also launched exalytics at the hardware level. Exalytics goal is very clear, that is, for large data. Oracle's as computing is the ability to provide massive amounts of information in the big data age--including structured, semi-structured, dataset, and unstructured data analysis. Exalytics can also support mixed data sources-including Oracle databases, Teradata, Microsoft SQL Server, and stand-alone Essbase databases.

and Exalytics hardware and software configuration is also very strong: 1TB memory and 48 core processors; TimesTen parallel Memory database supporting OBIEE 11g;200gb/s bandwidth; essbase OLAP server that supports parallel processing of memory The new user interface for High-bandwidth analysis and the fastest connected Exadata InfiniBand connections.

Oracle has always been a bit conservative in cloud computing, but as Oracle has launched a robust product at two levels of hardware and software at this conference. It also marks Oracle's landmark step in the cloud computing landscape.
