About the cloud, there are always people "parrot", so, about the cloud, also always controversial "mob".

Explain the virtual cloud, far more than the specific and image of the client to trouble. Microsoft has recently launched many cloud-based technologies, such as Office365, virtualization, and Microsoft's products, such as MSN and operating systems, have added a lot of "cloud" shadow. But it's a lot of energy to explain the abstract cloud to the public.

The current Microsoft Greater China development tool and Platform Division (Developer Platform Evangelism, DPE) General manager Shenwey, is mainly responsible for the software company, developers and universities to cooperate. When he recently promoted cloud computing, he began to impress the audience with "cloud benefits"-the cloud economy, by proving that "the cloud is useful" for it practitioners to become interested in the cloud.

Half of all the servers on the planet are wasted?

What is the purpose of the cloud? Let's start with the waste that no cloud brings.

People usually build Web sites used by the server, there are two well-known common sense: one is, the server is basically 24 hours of continuous operation, the second is, the night to the early morning eight hours, server access at the trough, the server is very inefficient utilization.

I have even come to the conclusion that half of the servers on the planet are wasted. Because, half of the earth is in the dark, the people who sleep use the computer frequency is very low. Also, our servers are designed to cope with spikes in business, rather than average, and most of the time servers run in a state of thirst or lack of effort. It's like, people buy a BMW, but most of the time it walks in the city, not on the freeway.

Shenwey cited five reasons for the change in server utilization, in addition to the above mentioned terminal access time volatility, people's daily behavior habits, but also different industries in different seasons change in resource allocation changes. In addition, the resources of the server are not matched and coordinated, CPU, bus, input and output, storage speed and bandwidth are not always perfectly coordinated: this is just like the traffic in big cities, the more cars there are, but the main roads of the city are overwhelmed at times, and even our Beijing occasionally becomes the "first block".

It is not inevitable that the waste of IT operations and servers: a large enough server repository, such as more than 1000 servers, the utilization of resources can be increased to 90%. For example, when people are distributed in the global server resources for unified deployment, so that the server pool becomes "day and night IT Resources", in the dark part of the server resources can be fully utilized. The ability to deploy such huge resources can also be balanced by the scarcity and idleness of resources caused by the seasons and the industry. The ability to process and deploy such a large amount of resources is cloud computing.

To give a more vivid example, the most acute contradiction in urban traffic is not the backward of our means of transport, but the large number of vehicles of private cars, and the contradiction of the limited road resources in a certain period. So it is impossible to expect high-end cars to save city traffic. The most effective way is the large capacity of the transportation--subway and rail transit. Rail transit is also the most effective way to solve urban traffic problems in the developed cities of Japan and the United States.

I asked Shenwey, if the subway is a cloud computing solution for urban transport, what role does Microsoft play? He believes that Microsoft could be a provider of subway cars or a management solution for subway traffic. Cloud computing, like all industries, has value, can bring economic benefits, and the scale, unified deployment of IT resources undoubtedly do this.

Two examples of Microsoft cloud computing

Microsoft's cloud computing is a vibrant case. One is tackling food safety issues such as lean meat, a classic case of collaboration between Microsoft and the Chengdu municipal government in the field of cloud computing.

The pork was so fine that everyone dared not eat lean pork. After all, a pig from production to make vegetables, including production, breeding, slaughtering, sales, rough, production, edible n links, a link out of the mistake may let bad pork into the market. Experts estimate that monitoring the 10 million pig IT infrastructure investment, the total cost of about 6 million, equivalent to each pig equal to 0.6 yuan, pork safety it cost is not cheap.

The Chengdu Government's approach is to use Microsoft's private cloud solution to record tens of thousands of pigs that flow into Chengdu every year. In order to detect the trend of pigs, a special set of "pork quality and safety traceability supervision system", so that most pigs through the binding RFID traceability chip has the only "ID card number." To ensure the safety of pork production and circulation through uninterrupted information, inquiry and data supervision. This means that if you eat pork if you feel unwell, you can use this system to find the pig that eats lean meat. As a result of cloud computing, it cost per pig is reduced to 0.27 yuan, reducing half the cost.

Another case is about animation business. China's online game development ahead of the global online gaming industry, and the last two years the film industry, animation industry, the pace of development is also surprising, so the demand for animation rendering has become particularly prominent. A lot of small and medium-sized studios, busy the early modeling work, and animation design, but in the later animation rendering is encountered trouble: rendering is the last link of animation is also necessary for finished products, but the need for high processor computers and servers, and if the purchase of large-scale servers for rendering, It's obviously too wasteful for startups.

It is said that more than the urban culture and creative areas of the enterprise is going to buy 3D scene real-time rendering and animation rendering services. Many High-tech industrial development parks in China also provide cloud-based animation rendering services for hatching projects, allowing start-ups to focus on creativity and design rather than on hardware. Many of these are based on Microsoft's cloud computing program.

Cloud computing is standard for "digital zones"

Shenwey that many of the city's technology parks are deploying "cloud computing" to attract more it and internet-tech companies, and governments everywhere are making these cities "digital zones" that drive the economy of the entire city. The author thinks that the formulation of the digital SAR is quite novel, and the "Digital Special Zone" provides cloud service is somewhat creative.

In fact, China's High-tech internet companies have formed three "information centers" that is: the four major portals, Baidu search for the representative of the Beijing Center, Alibaba Taobao as the representative of Hangzhou and online games gathered in Shanghai-Hangzhou Information Center, with Tencent and Thunder and NetEase as the representative of the Shenzhen Guangzhou Information Center. I think that these three information cities have dominated the Chinese Internet structure, and their demand for large-scale processing of information is far more than small and medium-sized sites, the demand for cloud computing is also more urgent.

For the city, we often refer to the economic and political and cultural center, and I suggest that for large cities or municipalities at the level of "Information Center" "Data centers" will also be necessary, and the construction of "Information Center" "Digital zone" of cloud computing, these cities need to pay attention to the hot technology, is also the promotion of High-tech cities must be indispensable elements. So I think, cloud computing will be the future "digital SAR" "Digital City" These information centers standard.

Cloud computing is the 21st century car revolution

As for the future of cloud computing, some people are still confused, and companies are still confused. Shenwey is full of confidence, he cited car development as an example: cars were called "horse-drawn wagons" at the beginning of 20th century, when even the early car pioneers did not realize the impact of cars on later generations, and they even thought that the number of cars would never exceed 1 million because of the high cost and lack of qualified drivers. Not universal. In fact, the number of cars is now over 600 million, and cars have had a profound impact on the world over the past 100 years.

Shenwey that the cloud is now confused with the car's confusion 100 years ago, but it will not affect cloud computing and automotive technology as a revolution.
