A few days ago, Cloud Passage, a manufacturer dedicated to cloud computing and virtual server security products, unveiled security products for virtual servers in a public cloud environment (such as Amazon's cloud services). Cloud Passage spokesman said the product could help users solve all the security problems they encounter when using a public cloud service.

"This security product, known as Halo Netsec, is a product with a firewall and dual authentication feature that only authenticated users can log on to," said Rand Wacker, vice president of Cloud Passage Inc. This product allows administrators to establish a "Perimeter" protection ring when using cloud services without logging on to the actual network.

"We created a cloud-ready platform that can automate management and program control by combining a lightweight host-based agent and software as a service grid."

Halo Netsec runs a 3M daemon on a virtual server to execute commands and communicate with the cloud passage compute grid. This means that users do not have to pay suppliers for computing services, Wacker said. When administrators set up new virtual servers, such as databases and Web applications, Cloudpassage developed technologies that could deploy firewalls, and firewalls and its rules were applied.

"In the past, we never thought of firewall management as the concept of a server dynamically showing, hiding, and changing IP," Wacker said.

Halo Netsec also has the dual authentication technology that administrators enter the server. The administrator enters the Cloudpassage ' s Web portal and uses a U disk to generate a one-time password before it can enter the server, Wacker said. This product does not need to enter the hypervisor because it runs on the virtual server's operating system, Wacker said. Other types of security software require access to the management program, but such infrastructure providers as Amazon Web Services and Rackspace are not allowed to do so.

"Amazon has no quarrel with our software installation platform," Wacker said.

The Halo Netsec is a lightweight version of the Halo Professional package. For example, an administrator can perform a daily intrusion detection scan and the record can be stored for one day. On the professional version, the administrator can scan every hour and the results can be stored for two years, Wacker said. Cloudpassage also has a free base version of Halo.

For the user, the Halo netsec is a midsize product that can help users easily gain basic network protection.

And in terms of price, Halo Netsec also finally get rid of the company's other products Free State. According to the latest news released by Cloud Passage, the product is charged at 3.5 cents per server hour. Of course, if the use of a large amount and commitment to the minimum dosage, users can also enjoy other preferential policies.
