Searchdatabackup website Assistant editor John Hilliard recently and Http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/13534.html ">forrester The analytics analyst Rachel Dines A communication about the relationship between the current mainstream backup utility and cloud storage. By learning, we will learn about data backup tools, such as how VMware Vstorage API interfaces are used for backup, and other sources for heavy tools.

John Hilliard: What have been the major changes in the backup software market in the past year or two?

Rachel dines: There have been significant changes to the backup software, and there are many products for users to choose from. The transition from a traditional backup service provider to a backup target is an important change in the backup software cloud.

In addition, over the past 1.5 to two years, the application of data de-duplication technology based on the source end is also an important change in the mainstream enterprise-level backup solution. The combination of hardware and software, such as the OST and boost technologies we know, is one of the major advances.

John Hilliard: How many products are supported by the VMware Vstorage API?

Rachel Dines: As early as two years ago we learned that VMware's Vstorage API for backup would replace the traditional VCB backup approach, and that Vstorage API interface solutions are much more optimized than VCB. Simply put, it hangs on the backup server after it has been created for the virtual machine, and the latter can be easily backed up, as long as the interface is supported. In other words, this series of changes can be achieved through software. Almost all of the mainstream backup software we know supports the Vstorage API interface.

John Hilliard: What are the major vendors in the Virtual machine backup field?

Rachel dines: In a short period of time, we saw some of the major vendors in the VMware virtual machine backup by some other vendors, such as the previous Veeam and Vizioncore, then the company was Quest Vranger acquisition.

These tools were pretty good at the time, but now traditional backup software has made a lot of progress in the performance of VMware virtual machine backups. But now, it would be awkward for virtual machines running on a VMware platform, as many backup software temporarily does not support a virtualized platform such as Hyper-V or Xen.

John Hilliard: How about Source-end technology? Have you seen the wide application of this technology? What do you think is driving the development of this technology?

Rachel dines: I do see a growing number of people using data deduplication in their backup software, and I think there are several factors driving the technology's development. On the one hand, when we put the heavy process on the hardware, directly in the backup software to the administrator will be reduced to a management platform; another aspect comes from cost savings considerations, people are now looking for heavy backup software, and then back up to cheap disk storage, Although this has locked the problem of a manufacturer, it is indeed an economic practice for the SME environment. Of course, such a situation is also unique, the enterprise also will consider dedicated to heavy equipment.

John Hilliard: What do you think is the biggest challenge in consolidating cloud backup and other backup tools?

Rachel Dines: The concept of cloud is indeed emerging in recent years, and more and more traditional manufacturers are cloud to move forward. For the moment, I think the biggest challenge is the integration of different cloud service providers. For now, most backup service providers do have one or two partners, but this does not meet the needs of the user in the future, and their expectation is to send the data to any cloud. I think this is also a big hurdle for us, because there are so many different kinds of protocols in the cloud concept, and integrating them together is really a big challenge.

In addition, I also think that no matter what form of cloud backup, backup to the cloud or backup as a service, in the face of recovery requirements? In the recovery time may encounter this kind of problem, faces the data quantity and restores the slow double pressure. As a result, I think that another problem that backup is a service and online backup is also part of their resilience.
