Commemoration of the International Day of Peace, 2014 opened in Xian

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon sent a video message at the event, saying the United Nations is calling for a global ceasefire on the day of international peace. We call on the belligerents to lay down their arms and let everyone breathe in peace, a long road that we all must take one step at a start today.

In his speech, Qide said the United Nations has identified the theme of this year's international and weekday "People's Right to peace". At present, the Asian region still faces various traditional and non-traditional security threats. We should learn from the lessons of history, jointly address security challenges, and work together to promote security and development in Asia and to enable people in Asia and the world to live happily in the light of peace.

Sri Lankan President Arshad, Prime Minister of Bangladesh's special envoy, former President of the Republic of Cyprus, Christofias of former Cypriot presidents attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

The event was co-sponsored by the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament, the United Nations system in China and the Shaanxi provincial people's government. The event lasts 2 days, with the participation of Chinese and foreign dignitaries, experts and scholars on the theme of "The people looking forward to safer Asia" and the new security concept in Asia, the Asian security mechanism, the exchange of civilizations and other issues.

And the CD, the largest civil peace organization in China, enjoys consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council and has been awarded the title of "Messenger of Peace" by the United Nations.
