CommVault adds cloud storage capabilities to Simpana software

CommVault's integrated cloud storage connectors allow users to migrate or move inbound backup and archive data into private cloud and public clouds without the need for scripting or cloud gateway applications.　　The data storage software vendor CommVault does not intend to join the growing number of online storage providers, whereas new features allow users to take advantage of services such as Amazon Web Services, EMC Atmos, Iron Kings, Microsoft and Nirvanix.　　According to Forrester's research, enterprise-class storage users have been sceptical about cloud storage security, service levels, regulatory chains, and other issues. Jeff Echols, head of cloud solutions at CommVault, also believes that enterprise storage users are still collecting potential usages of cloud storage, but added that such services could be used as a low-cost storage tier for compliance with relevant data retention. "For the application of compliance types, it can spark interest among business users," he said. "CommVault's Simpana software uses rest for HTTP to implement with Amazon S3, EMC Atmos, Iron Kings Archive Services Platform, Microsoft Tight integration of service APIs such as Azure and Nirvanix Sdn.　　CommVault users simply create a storage policy to choose cloud storage as their target.　　CommVault also provides data deduplication, compression, and FIPS-certified encryption to reduce storage costs and enhance security, and Simpana Search can index data before it is sent to the cloud to help meet regulatory compliance and electronic discovery requirements. The latest CommVault Service pack provides added cloud storage capabilities, and users need to obtain the accounts of each TB capacity license and one of the cloud service providers from CommVault.
