In the eyes of the world, IBM, Microsoft, Amazon, Google (Google), Oracle, etc. is a well-deserved leader in cloud computing, especially at home, the first three have announced the corresponding partners in the country, but also let the Chinese feel that the international giants of cloud computing is not the three. But now the situation is changing, and HP wants to catch up with OpenStack in the cloud computing arena, striking in the cloud-enclosure movement. According to statistics, enterprise users in the public cloud application rate of four years ago only 7%, and with the development of enterprise-class applications and the industry to define the public cloud, the current enterprise-class user application of the public cloud ratio has risen to 40%. "Early public clouds, such as Google and Amazon, do not have a cloud service for enterprise-class users. Not only that, the public cloud services at that time were highly proprietary and highly closed, provided in the form of services, while enterprise it was a highly proprietary, integrated it stack, and maintained a high level of status. "But today's corporate users don't want to make trade-offs between public and private clouds, but they need a mixed cloud of both public and private clouds," said Steve Dietch, vice president of marketing for HP's cloud computing business. "To that end, HP launched its cloud strategy in April 2012 and released HP Helion on May 7 this year, unifying HP's cloud computing products, services and solutions to a single platform."

Eliminate cloud computing barriers

As mentioned earlier, today's enterprise IT situation is a mixed cloud environment of both public and private clouds, focusing on delivering open standards to users to promote selectivity and flexibility and security. "In the past, enterprise it was primarily about building, like infrastructure and applications." Steve Dietch said, "And today enterprise it is to play the role of agent, it is to look at each application and workload of the specific situation, according to its cost, availability, performance, latency, data sovereignty and other attributes to define it on which platform to run is the best, To bring the best application experience to the users. ”

Because of the changes that have taken place in enterprise it in the past, HP is making a series of investments to eliminate these barriers to cloud deployment, accelerate the adoption rate of enterprise-class cloud computing, and its investment and exerting force focus on designing for enterprise it, committing and setting open standards, free porting between different clouds, etc.- -This is also the main reason why HP applies open OpenStack standards. It is reported that two months ago the release of the Helion product portfolio is based on OpenStack, and thus formed in the cloud construction and cloud consumption in the two major different areas of specific products and services.

In terms of construction, Hewlett-Packard has a complete set of proprietary cloud platform Cloudsystem, and for those who want to take advantage of OpenStack, HP offers OpenStack distributions that enable them to use themselves. For cloud consumption, customers who want to use external cloud services have two options: The first option is the managed cloud, which is actually a virtual private cloud or managed cloud product that HP and its partners can offer; the second option is the public cloud, which is provided by HP itself in the US public cloud, which is provided by HP or partners elsewhere in the world. "In China, cloud ecology does have its own uniqueness, we are actively communicating with a large number of customers, but also actively with China's partners to follow up." "Hewlett-Packard Global vice President, Cloud Computing Division, general manager of China Region, said Zhang Yongjian.

It is reported that Hewlett-Packard Helion OpenStack has two versions: one is free to download the Community edition; the second is for business versions of enterprise-class users and service providers who want to run scale-out applications, and HP offers added value in this release for high availability, security, installation, and upgrades. In the scope of application, the HP Helion OpenStack Community Edition is more suitable for concept validation and small-scale production environments, while Business Edition is more suitable for enterprise users and suppliers. At the same time, the HP Helion development platform Delivery model is platform-service, based on open source Cloudfoundry, designed to provide a very efficient and fast system for the majority of application developers to help them create and deploy and publish their applications independently of the infrastructure. Mr. Steve Dietch stressed that HP offers an unlimited security plan for any user of HP Helion OpenStack community, commercial and development platforms to ensure that they are not affected by any patent infringement, trademark infringement or copyright infringement lawsuits.

Since cloud computing is still in its early stages, cloud services must be specialized or hosted, including consulting, strategy, operational support and training, and HP and its partners have the world's leading service capabilities and services offerings in the cloud computing field. "We are one of only two companies in the world that can run OpenStack on a large scale, but another rackspace does not have the experience of running a large public cloud." "said Mr. Steve Dietch.

Build Helion Ecosystem by OpenStack

Because of the complexity of the cloud ecosystem, a company cannot meet all the needs of its users. The essence of the competition between different platforms of cloud computing is the competition between different cloud computing platform ecosystems. "Now, HP has officially launched the Helion Alliance, the world's largest open cloud alliance." The alliance is published with members, including At&t, Intel, Synapsis, BT, Hongkong Telecom and so on. At the same time, HP will accelerate its development with the help of more than 1500 Cloudsystem HP's private cloud clients and more than 133 HP Cloudagile customers.

"HP aims to build a complete ecosystem around service providers, enabling enterprise-class users to achieve unprecedented, unparalleled combinations of products and services, as well as a wide range of geographic coverage," said Steve Dietch. This is by no means a simple partnership project or ecosystem project, the HP Helion Alliance is a coalition of members to jointly manage and promote development for the benefit of the vast number of users. Steve Dietch stressed that there is only one condition for joining the Helion Alliance, and that their cloud solutions and service platforms must be based on HP Helion OpenStack, but there is no hard invitation to what hardware to apply.

Earlier this year, the HP Channel Partners Global Summit launched a new Partnerone program dedicated to cloud partners. This architecture includes cloud builders, cloud distributors and cloud vendors, as well as vendors delivering various IT services. Among them, according to the partner's certification and income targets are divided into three categories: platinum, gold and silver. In particular, if you are an IT-service provider, no matter what level of platinum, gold or silver, you can become a member of the HP Helion Alliance, only to get a different level of funding. For each category of partner, we all communicate very clearly, for cloud builders is mainly to help their customers from virtualization to private cloud deployment, for cloud dealers to help his customers more and more to the consumption of external IT services, for cloud service providers they can provide their own cloud services. At the same time a partner can also span the construction, distribution, delivery of 1 to 3 areas.

Summary: From open source higher than open source

Although Helion originated in the open source community, HP is not worried about Helion's competitiveness in the cloud computing market. "We are not relying entirely on or entirely on open source technology for HP's entire solution, and open source technology is just an integral part of the Helion solution." Steve Dietch said, "We think the open source technology can play a role in the time to make it work, but at the same time HP from multiple aspects will add some differentiated competitive advantage and value-added to this solution, including the hardware level, management level and application level, Many cases have repeatedly proved the success of this solution, which is HP's very strong advantage.
