According to Gartner's estimates, the number of consumers adopting cloud services will grow year after year, and by 2016 at least one-third of consumers will store their personal data in the cloud.

Currently, personal data stored in the cloud only accounts for about 7%. However, Gartner researchers say future consumers' ability to capture data on cameras and camcorders on smartphones and tablets will be greatly enhanced, prompting the storage of data on local legacy devices such as PC hard disks Or external hard drive) outside of the development. In the meantime, more than 36% of consumers will have data stored in the cloud over the next four years because of the technology that allows data to be automatically uploaded to the cloud.

Gartner said today's total personal data is about 329 eByte (EB), which by 2016 will skyrocket to 4.1 ZebyBeat (ZB). A ZB exceeds 1 trillion bytes or more. Gartner predicts that in the short term, consumer cloud storage needs will be met by free social media sites such as Facebook, where many people share their photos with their friends. And as the number of consumers who want to store data in the cloud dramatically increases, so does the need for additional storage, which Gartner predicts opens the door to opportunities for vendors offering integrated storage services.

According to Shalini Verma, principal research analyst at Gartner, "Cloud storage will grow with the emergence of a personal cloud that, in turn, simplifies direct storage to the cloud and will allow users to store their generated content directly into the cloud. As storage becomes an integral part of the personal cloud, storage services are further commoditized, and businesses engaged in online storage and online synchronization must rethink their future growth strategy.
