Corning announces more resistant fourth generation Diamond glass

The main screen supplier of most mobile phones such as the iphone, Corning, today unveiled the latest fourth-generation diamond Glass Gorilla Glass 4. The company claimed that after a full drop test, the main reason for the broken screen has been found, the improved next generation of glass strength than the competitive product twice times higher, the drop on the rough surface of the screen can be reduced to 20%.

Corning scientists examined hundreds of pieces of broken-screen equipment and found that 70% of the broken screen was caused by sharp contact (such as sandpaper). After a thousands of-hour analysis of the broken screen, Corning developed a new drop test to simulate a real-world drop, and then developed a fourth-generation diamond glass. The new generation of diamond glass in addition to the fall of the rough surface has 80% of the chance of not breaking the screen, Corning said that after the fall the glass strength can still be basically maintained.

Corning has been a major supplier of Apple's iphone and ipad screens. Prior to the iphone 6 release, there had been news that Apple's high-end products would use a more rugged sapphire screen than the GT Advanced hardness after the diamond, but the Corning high level shelled the sapphire screen was heavier, more expensive and less environmentally friendly.
