February 21 News, "Happy Aquarium" developers Crowdstar recently leaped to the world's second largest SNS game developers. Crowdstar currently has 45 million-month active users after Zynga, but the total number of employees is only one-tenth of Zynga's. It is reported that Crowdstar recently appointed company founder Peter Relan as CEO. Relan, formerly the chief executive of the incubator company Youweb, Crowdstar received 100,000 dollars in financing from Youweb. Earlier last year, it was reported that Microsoft wanted to invest more than 200 million dollars to buy Crowdstar. But because Crowdstar thinks Microsoft's condition will limit the company's development, the negotiations between the two sides ended in a rupture. Crowdstar Game "Happy Aquarium" Crowdstar has launched a variety of social games on Facebook, including "Happy Aquarium" (Happy Aquarium), "Material Girl" (It Girl), "Happy Pet" (Happy Pets) and "Pirate Tycoon "(Mighty Pirates). At present 50% of the company's traffic from the international market. Peter Relan says overseas markets are an important development opportunity for Crowdstar this year. In addition to focusing on international markets, Crowdstar is currently looking to expand in the mobile gaming market and win new space for development. But according to Relan, Crowdstar is not in favor of making the game directly into the original application of smartphones and functional handsets, "the interactive gaming experience on the Facebook platform is a completely different concept from the gaming experiences on mobile phones." Relan mentions that Crowdstar's mobile gaming will take a geographical location into account. Relan says geographic location is an important part of mobile phone interaction, and he believes the technology also applies to social games. Rival Zynga's expansion strategy has been around mergers and acquisitions, acquiring new games, mobile technology and talent through a series of gaming studios in the US and international markets. In the next year, Relan says, Crowdstar may plan to buy several social-game developers selectively, and the company may be able to raise money to complete the acquisitions. But Relan is hesitant to buy mobile gaming companies because "the mobile gaming industry is still very young" and no firm has been able to be confident of winning the industry. For the future, Relan confidently says the current scramble for talent in Silicon Valley is fierce. Crowdstar's biggest competitive advantage is that the company is more like an innovative enterprise with a culture of innovative enterprises. Still, there is a long way to go to catch up with Zynga. In addition, this area also has the playdom of EA's Playfish, Disney's rival, Crowdstar's development in 2011 is destined to be full of challenges, the company through large-scale financing is likely to accelerate their acquisition pace.
