Database management system parelastic: Break through the cloud MySQL expansion

As we all know, when it comes to cloud computing, extensibility tends to appear in the same sentence. But the database is rarely mentioned, let alone the MySQL database. Parelastic, a Boston start-up company, wants to change the status quo and has just won a 5.7 million dollar a round of financing from General Catalyst, the new "owner" of former VMware CTO Steve Herrod.

Parelastic is located between the application and the underlying database, and can be extended without complex fragmentation operations, and can even migrate the database to a larger server. Ken Rugg, the company's founder and chief executive, told Gigaom's correspondent Derrick Harris that the Parelastic database virtualization engine was architecturally similar to a parallel database system, but functionally as a middleware, managing multiple database instances, The intent of the design is more of an operational rather than an analytic type of workload.

Because parelastic can intelligently balance the database load and allocate data across servers, parelastic can also handle applications or service requests well, Rugg added, in the case of multiple tenants.

Admittedly, the NoSQL database is also an ongoing effort in extensibility, Newsql is dedicated to the ability to extend the SQL database horizontally, and even many databases have been provided to users as cloud services. However, Rugg explains that these and parelastic work in a very different way, if the user chooses NoSQL or newsql, this means that a new database needs to be deployed, and some application code may be rewritten. Parelastic's software is simply overwriting the user's existing cloud database. About half of early AWS users use the standard version of MySQL, while the rest are distributed among cloud service providers such as Rackspace, joyent and Liquidweb, Rugg said.

Some parelastic users actually manage existing SQL services, like Amazon's relational database service or Google Cloud sql, and some even use it to manage the internal database environment. Rugg points out that technically, parelastic is a database that can manage across cloud platforms, but this inevitably leads to a delay in service, "we don't recommend it."

Rugg that the biggest beneficiaries of parelastic technology, besides the company, are AWS, the most widely used cloud platform in the world. However, when a user's single database instance is limited, Amazon's general solution is to tell the user to slice or migrate to the Dynamodb platform, "which is not very friendly to those who want to migrate to the Amazon cloud platform," Rugg said. In the near term, some cloud service providers offer better Cpu,io and network performance than AWS (Rugg says Rackspace performs well on IO performance), but in combination, AWS is a good choice, In particular, Parelastic helps AWS make up some of its own short boards, providing better performance services at lower cost.

Parelastic existing investors also include Point Judith Capital, Commonangels and Launchcapital, after which the company's risk capitalization amounted to $8.7 million trillion.
