Dell announced in Monday that it would buy Enstratius, a corporate cloud management software company. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Dell says it will retain Enstratius employees and continue to invest in its engineering and sales departments to help develop its business. Enstratius was created in 2008 to provide cloud management services to mixed clouds and individual cloud users in a software-as-service (SaaS) manner. This service is provided in a managed manner or provided on the network. This technology is compatible with Dell and non-Dell customers, including OpenStack, Microsoft's Azure, Amazon's Web services, VMware and Rackspace, by adopting a platform that is not dependent on any cloud.

Enstratius's software cloud management capabilities allow administrators and IT personnel to quickly and easily configure and deploy multiple component applications in a cloud or multiple clouds.

Dell said the acquisition of Enstratius would complement the Gale technology company it acquired in November 2012. The acquisition transformed Gale into the smart System Manager, which helped build Dell's enterprise systems and services.

Dell says Enstratius and Gale will complement each other, providing multiple cloud management and application configuration capabilities, leveraging cloud management to integrate integrated products.

David Bagley, chief executive of Enstratius, said he and the company were excited about joining Dell. The combination of two companies will create new opportunities for organizations to accelerate application and IT service delivery in internal data centers, private cloud, and public cloud solutions.

In short, the deal will start to change Dell's corporate and cloud product portfolio.

The Enterprise division of the Dell Enterprise Solutions Division will continue to focus on data center management applications and service offerings for its cloud customers.

Dell did not disclose the expected completion time of the deal and whether the deal was subject to regulatory scrutiny.
