Dell claims to offer better SLAs without a low price tag

Dell confirmed that the development of the Dell Public cloud service based on OpenStack will officially begin in the fourth quarter of this year, and that the service has now entered the testing phase.

Dell's cloud strategy includes private cloud, user-tailored data center solutions, and Public cloud services, Orakwue said, but he did not disclose whether it was supported by OpenStack in private cloud and user-defined cloud services.

Dell's public cloud services were initially completely based on VMware's Vcloud Suite implementation, a state that has been around for about a year. But VMware's pricing and licensing does not provide a good price/performance ratio, so Dell is moving toward an open source platform. Dell will recommend OpenStack Cloud services to users unless they select VMware products.
