Dell, Dell's CEO Michael Dell, said at a meeting at Fortune magazine today that it would make 60 million of billions of dollars in venture capital for storage services companies, and Dell was also transforming into the corporate market. Referring to the Chinese market, Michael Dell said about 60% of China's internet industry servers are Dell products. Although most of the revenue still comes from the PC business, Dell is no longer a pure PC company. Michael Dell talked about Dell's business of enterprise servers, storage, network devices, information security and IT services, and not much about the PC business. "Over the past 5 years, we have embarked on a planned transition to end-to-end IT service business," he says. He calls these new businesses "new Dell." With the development of the "post-PC" era, Dell is also opening up business other than PCs. Most of Dell's research and development budgets are now being used for corporate transformation. Unlike its rival, Hewlett-Packard, Dell's transformation has not been hampered by past business. Dell and Hewlett-Packard are turning to business-focused models, as IBM (Weibo) started a few years ago. But Dell is still heavily reliant on PC business. Dell will continue to compete with Apple in the PC market and will develop a Tablet PC with Windows 8 systems, Michael Dell said. But Dell's position in the PC market is falling. Dell is now the world's fourth-ranked PC manufacturer, with a 10.7% per cent share of shipments, below 12.1% a year ago. While most of Dell's revenue comes from the PC business, profit growth comes from new businesses, especially IT services, as well as business and government. Michael Dell says Apple's growth comes from sales of iphones and ipads, while Dell's growth comes from providing information security services to these devices and adapting them to the enterprise IT system. As part of the new direction, Michael Dell announced that it would make 60 million of billions of dollars in venture capital for storage services companies. "It's a huge opportunity," he says. For us, storage remains an important area. "Dell's share price has underperformed recently. Dell is currently unstable, but the overall direction is correct, Michael Dell said. He also said that Dell has made great strides in adjusting the business and product mix. Another important area of growth for Dell is the Chinese market. Dell has a large share of the market for mission-critical systems in China. Dell said that about 60% of the servers in China's internet industry were products, and that China was Dell's largest market, apart from the US. But he admits that sales growth in the Chinese market is slowing. Recently, many company founders, such as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, have stepped up control of the company's voting stake in Zuckerberg. But Michael Dell says the blurring of both CEOs and shareholders is not a good thing.
