Deltacloud becomes the Apache top project

Recently, the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) announced that the Apache Deltacloud has upgraded from the Apache incubator (Apache incubation project) to the top open source project (TLP).

Deltacloud, an Open-source API developed by Redhat in September 2009, defines a restful Web service designed to provide a unified approach to interacting with cloud service providers and cloud resources.

In addition, Deltacloud includes API implementations for the most popular cloud services, such as Amazon, Eucalyptus, Gogrid, IBM, Microsoft, OpenStack, and Rackspace. In addition to server-side API implementations, the project provides a multilingual client library.

The Deltacloud project was transferred to the Apache Foundation in May 2010. So far, the project has been continuously innovative, with a large number of contributors, and expanded the range of cloud services it can manage.

According to the official introduction:

Deltacloud provides developers with:

A simple restful API that supports any platform access;

Support all major cloud service providers;

Backward compatibility across versions, providing long-term support for stable scripts, tools, and applications;

A standalone Cimi front-end, Cimi API conformance test, and a simple Cimi client application.

"We are delighted that the Deltacloud project was recognized by the Apache Foundation as a great milestone," said David Lutterkort, chairman of the Apache Deltacloud Project Management Committee and Redhat's chief Software architect. Deltacloud has shown the value of the Third-party Cloud Management API, and we will continue to provide options for cloud users.

Apache Deltacloud source code is based on the Apache License v2.0 license release.
