Researchers at Fujitsu Laboratories have developed technology to accurately predict the energy consumption of data centers using http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/13883.html > Virtualization Technologies today.

Among the many techniques I've been writing about, some of the techniques I've been fascinated by are predictive techniques for determining the results of a hypothetical analysis. For example, I have written about monitoring water plants, keeping a close eye on the purity of sensors and wireless technology in the water, and I've also written about nets that can track the environmental changes in the hive.

So I saw a message that Fujitsu Laboratories and Fujitsu's European laboratories have developed simulation techniques designed to help predict the energy consumption of data centers-especially when there are changes, such as shifting loads in virtualized server environments.

Speaking of background, we all know that cooling is an important part of any data center. But you can't "simulate" temperature changes in a normal data center, and cooling needs to change depending on the time period and the season, even when the server's utilization and server temperature change. This is why the current cooling system is designed to maintain a certain indoor temperature (by the way, cooling is also a big part of the data center's energy consumption – according to Fujitsu, cooling accounts for about 30% of the total energy consumption in the data center).

This is why Fujitsu has decided to develop real-time simulation techniques to simulate today's virtualized data centers, and the changing performance of virtualized data centers makes it more difficult to predict the impact of changes in the health of hardware and air-conditioning devices on total energy consumption in the data center.

The technology, developed by Fujitsu, can determine the heat flow in a building, 1000 times times faster than before, and it can also be a complete model for hardware, air-conditioning and other devices in the operating data center. With the combination of sensor technology and modeling technology, the energy consumption of the data center can be calculated accurately, and the actual effect of the measure before the implementation of energy saving measures is achieved. This technology instantly simulates how energy consumption changes with server load size and air conditioning control.

According to Fujitsu, this newly developed technology has the following characteristics:

• High-speed heat flow simulation, can analyze the heat flow in the building. Researchers can automatically obtain the temperature and heat flow patterns in advance, reducing the amount of calculation required, thus speeding up the calculation speed by 1000 times times.

• By modeling all current and heat flows (including hardware, air-conditioning equipment, and power systems), it is less than 5% of the error margin to simulate the entire data center's energy consumption.

According to Fujitsu, with this technology, it is possible to accurately simulate the impact of energy-saving measures on the entire data center. For example, if you increase the processing load for a server in a fixed place during a low demand period, while cutting off the power of other servers and reducing the output of the air conditioner, data center operators can see what happens to the energy consumption. Fujitsu said the technology could also take full account of the climatic conditions (temperature and humidity) of the data center site and carefully analyse the cooling methods best suited to the site.

Now, the technology will be tested and applied in-house within Fujitsu's data center.
