Don't worry about "real" and "fake" hats for cloud computing.

Keywords Cloud computing we core technology but

"Summary" a few days ago to see a micro-blog said: "Now cloud computing has become a disaster." Only Google and Amazon, plus Facebook, are the only ones in the world that really hold the core technology. It can be imagined that millions of dollars will be wasted here. ”

My comment is: Those who make this assertion, at least, are arbitrary at the same level as those who preach that cloud computing is a panacea. I confess that there was some immediacy in the tone of the remark and apologized again. But the "true" and "pseudo" of cloud computing still want to talk about their own ideas.

First, start with the three companies mentioned above. First, let's put aside Facebook, I think it's a typical internet company, not a cloud leader. There should be no objection from too many people.

Next, let's look at Google and Amazon,googleapp/chromos's new experience with information technology, the new changes that Amazon's leasing service brings to Enterprise Informatization, Google's Distributed File system and data retrieval technology, AWS's rich Web Service cloud services interface and its powerful distributed backend both Google and Amazon are undisputed leaders, whether in business-model practice or in driving innovation technology, but can we just think that the technology they represent is "the real core "and other technologies are" pseudo cloud computing technology "? I'm afraid not.

It is easy to get this illusion if we focus on cloud computing only in the high tech leader. But if you've ever communicated with cloud computing customers, once you've understood the real plight of cloud computing customers, and have been trapped in actual environmental factors and limitations, you won't be able to come to this conclusion.

This is a typical "silver bullet" thinking, there is some kind of "core technology" in the world, it can solve all problems, or there is some kind of "core technology" of the company, 32 will be able to sweep opponents all clean.

The mistake of thinking is to simplify the problem too much. "One size not full all", a single technology may not be able to meet all of the requirements, even if it is beautiful, elegant, leading or from the most beautiful company.

Let's look at the composition of this core technology, presumably "the core technology" that "only Google and Amazon" has:

1 Distributed File system (e.g. GFS)

2 Storage of massive search data (e.g. MapReduce)

3 non-relational data technology (such as BigTable, or Facebook's Cassandra, which may be the author thinks Facebook is one of the core technology vendors)

Admittedly, the above technology is very dazzling, but whether this is the only technology is the cloud? These technologies themselves are more concerned with mass data and distributed issues, but recall the nature of cloud computing, whose fundamental problem is not the emergence of new technologies, but the emergence of new delivery patterns (IaaS /saas/bpaas). Its core technology is not distributed (distributed), but abstraction of resources (abstraction), decoupling (face) and multi-tenant (multi-tenancy). From another point of view, the above technology needs to consume a lot of research and development manpower and weakness, simply can not be used in the general enterprise. Its only way out is to build a "public" platform and then hire resources, but not all enterprise applications can be relocated to the public platform.

Imagine that when the financial industry's own data center security issues are not busy, it will put the server on the Amazon? Where a machine has just appeared in a region that failed and could not be recovered for one weeks. When enterprise data is only GB, do you need to use the PB-level MapReduce? NoSQL is wonderful, but when most of the programs that support enterprise operations are still running on relational databases, running well and stable, why make a change? If you want to say technical elegance, compared to the chubby distributed storage technology, A cluster management system (such as VMFS) on a virtualized platform is pediatrics, but why is it so vigorous and so pervasive? Because it works with the virtualization layer, the product has been packaged, the enterprise does not need to invest in a large number of research and development manpower, operational personnel easy to quickly deploy, and compatible with a variety of heterogeneous hardware, Although the depth and breadth of the distributed storage it can control is less than that of GFS, can you say it is not a "pseudo" cloud computing technology?

One mistake we often make is to spend a lot of human and material resources searching for more elegant tools, looking for sharper drills, and practicing more drilling, but forgetting ourselves but simply drilling a simple hole in the plank.

The so-called "glimpse, see", this "technology-oriented" (technical-oriented) thinking, easy to forget the diversity and needs of the market, forget the old infrastructure and legacy processes now running in the enterprise, forget Rome is not a day of work, Forget to run things silently step-by-step method of doing things, more importantly, forget to demand driven (demand-oriented) is the basis of the technology.

There are two ways for companies to cloud computing: Innovation (transformation) or improvement (transitions). Each road has many kinds of methods, different technology combination, the former technical means such as gfs/nosql/mapreduce/hadoop and other distributed technology, the latter's technical means often take the resource virtualization + process automation + application standardization this road; The former is mostly used in public platform, The latter is mostly applied to private clouds, the former being a new architecture, facing the future, which is a progressive style, caring for legacy assets (legacyinvestment) and bridging the past.

The movie "Fearless" has a line, "the World martial arts no high and low points, martial arts talent has strong or weak," Yunshan ", and then some people would like to start to judge the identity of the cloud, to the" true "and" false "thesis, my opinion is, fry what urgency? The existence is reasonable, for cloud computing chaos, Why not let it be, the customer is the source of application, the market is a day-made hand, all in fact in control. So we might as well waste in the "gas" and "sword" is the best of the time, to do more practice, accumulate more experience. "Stop talking, start Action", instead of arbitrarily putting "true" and "fake" hats on various technologies, is probably the right way to quweicunzhen the cloud.
