Ebay said it would make sense to launch a dedicated mobile app for the vertical industry because of the huge sales of related goods through ebay's main mobile app. Currently, global users buy 90,000 pieces of auto parts and 2000 cars per week via ebay's main mobile app. Ebay apps will help users search, bid or buy a variety of auto parts and vehicles. With a feature called my garage, users can add favorite cars and accessories to their applications. With the infrared two-dimensional code scanning technology, users can scan any vehicle identification data (VIN), in the "My Garage" to add the car's factory year, manufacturing information and model information. By "My garage", car owners can search for inventory information in an ebay car and find the right accessories. The app also helps users get historical information about cars, save on car search results, ask dealers questions, and share lists via Facebook, Twitter, or email via the Experian AutoCheck Vehicle History reports feature. Ebay expects the extra functionality of the app to drive sales of cars on ebay's website. For ebay, cars are a vertical market with growing sales. In the first quarter of 2011, total sales of cars on ebay grew by more than 160% Year-on-year, while sales of accessories around the world grew nearly 250% Year-on-year. (Nan)
